"Time-Driven Priority" Flow Control for Real-Time Heterogeneous Internetworking
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider real-time traffic in a heterogeneous internetworking environment with IP routers, MAC bridges, Hubs, Switched LANs etc. We assume that the current routing protocols remain unchanged. However, in this environment, in order to provide quality of service (QoS): bandwidth, delay, constantbounded jitter and no-loss due to congestion, we suggest a new flow control function called time-driven priority, which is an internal traffic shaping mechanism. We show how it supports two classes of connections: constant bit rate (CBR) with deterministic guarantees, and variable bit rate (VBR) with statistical multiplexing. The mechanism does not require to identify and separate the packet flows of different real-time sessions/connections inside the network. As a result, it achieves lower switching complexity when compared with other internal traffic shaping methods. As consequences of the time-driven priority mechanism we further achieve: (1) QoS parameters which are independent of the connection bandwidth, (2) QoS parameters which are independent of the existing heterogeneous internetworking asynchronous data traffic, and (3) the capability for policing and securing the network QoS. Throttle and Preempt: A New Flow Control for Real-Time Communications in Wormhole Networks
In this papel; we study wormhole routed networks and their suitability for real-time trafic in a priority-driven paradigm. A traditional blocking $ow control in wormhole routing may lead to a priority inversion in the sense that high priority packets are blocked by low priority packets for unlimited time. This uncontrolled priority inversion causes the frequent deadline missing. This paper ther...

The distributed nature of routing and flow control in a register-insertion ring topology complicates priority enforcement for real-time systems. Two divergent approaches for priority enforcement for ringbased networks are reviewed: a node-oriented scheme called Preemptive Priority Queue and a ring-wide arbitration approach dubbed TRAIN. This paper introduces a hybrid protocol named Directed Flo...

This paper presents a priority approach for censorious real-time traffic which flows particularly for low data rate wireless sensor and actor network (LR-WSAN). In the recent years, the demand for low rate wireless data transmission has been increased drastically in small scale industrial and non-industrial applications. The different traffic flows are increased by incorporating a variety of di...

Current approaches to supporting real-time communication allocate network resources either to individual connections, or to aggregates of connections. Resource sharing is a new approach that exploits known relationships between related connections to allow network resources to be shared between them without sacriic-ing well-deened guarantees. We present a fully distributed technique for using r...

The Real-time Channel Administration Protocol (RCAP) provides control and administration services for the Tenet real-time protocol suite, a connection-oriented suite of network and transport layer protocols for realtime communication. RCAP performs per-channel reservation of network resources based on worst-case analysis to provide hard guarantees on delay, jitter, and packet loss bounds. It us...
